About the Design:
As a continuation of our Limited Edition Goddess Series, This Mermaid/Siren design is tribute to all Water Spirit Protectors. It’s mirrored in all directions to call upon the elements, help find your way and be surrounded by infinite protection.
Attributes: Goddess of fertility, waters, femininity, and earth.
The primary mermaid goddess is Atargatis (also known as Derceto), a fertility and protection goddess from ancient Syria, ~4,000 years ago. She is sometimes described as a mermaid due to myths of her transformation into a fish-bodied creature after a lost love, and was associated with doves and sacred fish, which acted as oracles. Her worship spread to the Mediterranean and she became a symbol of water, fertility, life cycles, and transformation.
